The Brief

As part of P5 we have been asked to design a place for conversation in Barnsley Town Centre, this will then culminate in an exhibition of our work at the Barnsley Civic.

The project is based around an earlier research project. In this project, as a two seperate groups, we were given a material and a two buildings to research. The materials we were set was timber and the buildings were The Weald and Downland Gridshell and the Cathedral at …

Our two groups, A1 and F4, then went on two seperate research trips to understand more about the processes of producing timber. One group visited a sawmill at Job Earnshaw in Midgeley while the other visit a Glulam factory.

After this trip we were then set the task of designing “a place for conversation” in barnsley’s city centre. For this Part of the project we had to compete against each other, with the winning groups design being made and exhibited in the Barnsley Civic.
